The original manuscript from which Nichols drew his transcriptions is untraceable. The latest edition of Nichols, John Nichols’s The Progresses, vol 2, pp 332–4, adds nothing, and elides entries to produce only a partial set of records – this is why this transcription is taken from the original edition of Nichols, which purports to present a more complete document. In the absence of early Lichfield civic records, it is impossible to identify these local officials further. For further information on the queen’s progress from Kenilworth through Lichfield, Chartley, and Stafford, see the Introduction. The 'Other Extracts for the "Charges Extraordinary" of the year' are given as in Nichols, because he assumed them to be associated with the royal progress (Progresses, vol 2, p 334). Nichols does not present any narrative record of the queen’s visit to Lichfield.
