Edwardus Brigstocke. Presentatur for that the xj⸢th⸣ of this October 1607 he behaved himselfe very vnreverently in the Church in the time of the sermon with one Edward Towe a fidler in laughing & gurninge to the Offence of manye then present, as the then Churchwarden William Coker wilbe readye to proove. Dictus Brigstocke in non comparendo personaliter citatus ad respondendum Deteccioni predicto restat suspensio. Et 4. Iunij 1608 fuit excommunicatus Emanauit. Et denunciate fuerunt tres excommunicaciones predictas in Ecclesia ibidem tempore diuinorum die dominica xxxjo Iulij 1608 per Magistrum Clementem Martin Clericum Procuratorem ibidem prout patet. °Et 18 Marcij 1608 coram magistro doctore Gager Officiali principali Curie consilij Episcopalis Eliensis in Officina interiori Iohannis Smithe infra parochiam sancti Sepulchri ville Cantebrigie notarie situs et situatus. In presentia mei Iohannis Smith notarij Publici deputati Registrarij &c. comparuit dictus Brigstocke quem dominus ad eius peticionem absoluit a sentencijs Suspensionis et Excommunicacionis respectiue predictis. prestito per eum iuramento corporali tactis &c. de parendo iuri et stando mandatis Ecclesie &c Tunc obiecto ei articulo predicto idem Brigstocke fatebatur quodam modo eundem esse verum, vnde dominus pronunciauit eum in penam Statuti in ea parte anno 4 Edwardi .6. Capitulo .4. editi incidisse &c viz. Suspensionem ab ingressu Ecclesie / Et deinde ad dicti Brigstocke peticionem (ex intercessione magistri Welbye) dominus eundem Brigstocke absoluit &c. prestito iuramento &c tactis &c & sic cum pia monicione &c dominus eundem Brigstocke dimisit./°

Edward Brigstocke. A presentment is made (English) The said Brigstocke, seeing that he did not appear, was cited in person to respond to the aforesaid detection. The suspension remains in place, and on 4 June 1608, he was excommunicated. (A writ of excommunication) has been issued. And the aforesaid three excommunications were announced in church there at the time of divine service on Sunday, 21 July 1608 by Master Clement Martin, clerk, procurator there, as it appears. And on 18 March 1608 before Master Doctor Gager, principal official of the consistory court of Ely in the inner office of John Smith, notary, set and situated within the parish of the Holy Sepulchre in the town of Cambridge, in the presence of me, John Smith, notary public, deputy registrar, etc, the said Brigstocke appeared. The lord (judge) absolved him at his petition from the aforesaid sentences of suspension and excommunication respectively when he had sworn a corporal oath by touching (the holy gospels) to obey the law and adhere to the commands of the church, etc. Then when he was charged with the aforesaid article, the same Brigstocke confessed that the same (article) was in a certain way true, wherefore the lord (judge) pronounced him to have incurred the penalty of the statute set out in that part in the fourth year (of the reign) of Edward VI, the fourth chapter, etc, namely, suspension from entering church. And, thereafter, at the petition of the same Brigstocke – by the intercession of Master Welbye – the lord (judge) absolved the said Brigstocke, etc, when he had taken a corporal oath by touching (the holy gospels). And so the lord (judge) dismissed the same Brigstocke with a solemn warning, etc./
Edward Towe of Wisbech St Peter. A presentment is made as above. He is to be cited for the next (court day) at Wisbech. And on 25 August 1608, with the citation having been shown by William Olecorn, apparitor, the said Towe was cited. And having been summoned, he did not appear. He is suspended. (A writ of suspension) was issued. (English)
